Michelle Wilson

Executive Director

In her role as Executive Director of the Florida Commission on Human Relations (FCHR), Michelle Wilson supervises the day-to-day operations of the Commission. She directs all management areas -- administration, information technology, quality control and assurance, human resources, communications, legislative affairs and research, as well as legal and investigation activities in conjunction with the Commission’s General Counsel.

Wilson honed her skills while serving as FCHR’s budget director for 10 years. With an extensive business and economics background, a strategic and innovative vision and an ability to collaborate with other agencies and organizations to form consensus and establish broad range partnerships, the Commissioners unanimously selected her in December 2011 to be Executive Director, the first female to serve in that capacity, and has served ever since.

A Gainesville native who spent most of her childhood in Tampa, Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in business economics from Florida A&M University and has an MBA from Capella University. She worked in budget-related positions for the Florida Senate Appropriations Committee, the Florida Governor’s Office and the Florida Department of Management Services prior to coming to FCHR as budget director in 2001.

During her time at FAMU, she also met her husband, Errol. The couple, who have been married for 25 years, lives in Wakulla County. Her two oldest children reside in Tallahassee and attend FAMU and the Florida State University. Her youngest attends the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida.

Active in her community, Michelle is a member of a variety of community organizations that serve the Big Bend area. She is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world's largest HR professional society, representing 285000 members in more than 165 countries.

"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."
